UWFPS 2017 daily cold-air pool forecast valid Monday 1/23/2017  11:00 am MST
Summary: Accumulating snow will occur with a cold front Monday afternoon and evening, with 1-3" in the Salt Lake Valley and 2-4" expected in Cache and Utah Valleys (Cache already received 6-12" fresh snow Sunday night). Light snow continues Tuesday. A cold trough will bring emplacement of cold air at the low levels before an expected ridge of high pressure approaches Friday afternoon.

Current weather outlook for Monday 22 January - Tues 31 January. 

Low temperatures will be ~30 degrees F with high temperature 40 degrees F on Monday. Highs will decrease to the upper 20s with lows in the teens Tuesday through weekend.

Monday 23 January Snow becoming potentially heavy in the afternoon into evening. Accumulations of 2-5" in Cache and Utah Valleys, 1-3" Salt Lake Valley.

Tuesday 24 January Colder. Scattered snow showers.

Wednesday 25 January Mostly cloudy, cold.  Scattered light snow showers in the morning, partial clearing in the afternoon.  Potential "non-inversion" day with no flight visibility restrictions in the afternoon.

Thursday 26 January Mostly cloudy, cold.  Potential "non-inversion" day with no flight visibility restrictions.

Friday 27 January Partly cloudy, cold.  Cold-air pool start currently forecast for Friday afternoon.

Saturday 28 January - Tuesday 31 January.

Confidence is increasing that cold-air pool/inversion conditions will set up over Utah beginning Friday afternoon (27th January) and continue through at least Tuesday 31 January.  The evolution and strength of the episode onset this weekend will become clearer in the next 24-48 hours.
